Five years ago, I used the pandemic to my advantage—but not in the way you think. I took that masked (literally) opportunity to hide. I never participated, never socialized, and honestly? I never cared enough to do anything in my communities. Until one day, I got the chance to step out of my shell. Wolmer’s High School for Girls, my alma mater, set the stage for the version of me you see today. What started as simply taking club photos turned into managing huge events, running social media, and eventually becoming the Public Relations Officer for a national organization. Now, I’ve expanded even more. I’m currently studying Communication, Social Media, & Public Relations at York University’s Markham Campus, where I get to explore how media shapes the way we connect, engage, and influence.
Hey, I’m Deborah McLean, a proud Multimedia Strategist with a passion for storytelling, branding, and digital content creation.
This process hasn’t been easy, and truthfully? It’s still something I’m working on. The world of digital media is competitive, fast-paced, and sometimes (most times ) overwhelming, but I’ve learned to embrace that challenge.
Over the years, I’ve built experience in public relations, social media management, event planning, and photography. And every step of the way, I’ve found new ways to bring ideas to life. As VP of Marketing for my student council, I’ve developed campaigns and organized events that make student life more exciting. In my final year at Wolmers, I launched a graduation photoshoot initiative to give students affordable, high-quality portraits. In that same year, I led a campaign for my local basketball team that helped secure their first-ever national championship and open doors to international opportunities. And before any of that, I built a business from scratch that made over $1M in sales in just six months, proving to myself that ideas can become something real.
After all of this, I started calling myself Starlens Media, because I truly believe that my lens has the power to capture stars in their essence and give them a platform to spark their stories. To be a star means to shine in your own way, to embrace your journey, and to own your presence in the world. To see a star's true brilliance, you just have to look closely. With my lens, I hope to make sure the world sees it too.
With everything I’ve done in just three years, I know I am living proof that digital media can give a voice to those who are often overlooked. It can open doors, create change, and connect people in ways we never imagined.
The beauty of a star isn't just how it shines, but how it lights the way for others. And as a star still discovering her own light, my passion will always lie with helping others find theirs. This journey has been and will always be a learning process that I will always be eager to explore. If you're reading this, it is my genuine wish for you to become a part of that journey.
From one star to another,
